Inner Cross, Unbroken Truth

John 19:31-37 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read John 19 in context

Scripture Focus

31The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
32Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.
33But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:
34But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
35And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.
36For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.
37And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
John 19:31-37

Biblical Context

The passage recounts the Sabbath preparation, the breaking of legs, and Jesus' death by spear. It then notes the fulfillment of scripture through these events and their symbolic meaning.

Neville's Inner Vision

Consider the cross as a state of consciousness rather than a distant event. The soldiers, who break the limbs, symbolize the old, cramped stories you have believed about yourself, stories that would deny your wholeness. Yet the text says Jesus died and yet his bones would not be broken, a sign that the I AM in you cannot be fractured by any appearance. The spear piercing his side, with blood and water flowing forth, speaks of inner revelation: what you have believed as separate from life is opened to the source of life itself through transparent awareness. When the words are fulfilled—that none of his bones shall be broken and that you shall look on him pierced—the message is practical: your present sense of separation yields to the inexhaustible wholeness of God within. In this light, the crucifixion becomes not punishment but a door through which your I AM rises into full perception, completing the inner prophecy you have always known.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and assume you are already the I AM, unbroken and complete. Then revise any lack by declaring, I am Whole; I am Life; I am the Cross that cannot be broken, and feel it real.
