Inner Service of Love
John 13:1-5 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read John 13 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Jesus, aware that his hour had come, loves his own and demonstrates that love by washing their feet. It is an act of humble service that reveals the depth of his connection to the Father and to those he loves.
Neville's Inner Vision
To the reader, the scene is not merely foot-washing but a symbolic cleansing of consciousness. The devil in John represents a belief that could betray unity; yet Jesus knew the Father had given all things into his hands—your awareness holds all conditions and experiences as you imagine them. He rises, lays aside his garments, and girds himself with a towel, signaling that you let go of yesterday's identifications and clothe yourself with disciplined, loving attention. He pours water into a basin and begins to wash feet, cleansing perception of doubt and sense of separation. This is not ritual; it is inner revelation: love in action flows from the I AM within you. When you realize you come from God and go to God, you awaken to serve from that inner stillness; the world responds to the atmosphere your consciousness breathes.
Practice This Now
Practice: Assume you are the I AM washing away a belief that binds you; feel it real, then revise it by declaring, 'I hold all things in my hands, and I am love in action.'
