Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Jesus proclaims he is the good shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep. He contrasts himself with the hireling, who abandons the flock, and he speaks of gathering other sheep into one fold.
Neville's Inner Vision
In the theater of your mind, the I AM is the good shepherd. All that you call self is the flock under his care, and the moment you identify as fear, lack, or limitation, you are playing the hireling. The true shepherd stays with the sheep because awareness is present, attentive, and unafraid to lay down a belief that no longer serves you. When he says he knows his sheep and is known of mine, he reveals that your inner sight recognizes you and your life, and is recognized by the Father, the higher self within you. The line about other sheep not yet in this fold is a signal that more parts of your consciousness can be gathered when you answer the voice of your own heart. The Father loves me because I lay down my life, that I might take it again—this is the law of consciousness: you can surrender a stale state and awaken a fresh one by the power of imagination. You and the Father are one, and the flock becomes one when you choose the I AM as shepherd of all your inner beings.
Practice This Now
Practice: close your eyes and assume the state of the inner shepherd. Imagine laying down a fear and taking up a new, life-affirming belief, feeling it as now.
