Biblical Context
Job 31:26-28 warns that admiring the sun or moon and secretly cherishing such signs would be an iniquity, a denial of the God who is above.
Neville's Inner Vision
Job’s passage invites us to look inward at the objects of reverence—the sun, the moon, and the outward signs that seem to govern life—and to see that to be moved by them is really to yield to a belief in separation. In the Neville sense, those luminaries are states of consciousness: admiration and enticement are inner movements that pretend to rule the day. The ‘God that is above’ is not distant but the I AM, the awareness that stands above all appearances. If I let my heart be enticed by light in the sky, I am consenting to a fiction that life exists apart from the I AM; this is the so-called iniquity. The remedy is to revise my identification: I am the I AM, and the sun and moon are symbols appearing within my consciousness. Trust the inner light as your only reality, and refuse to grant outer signs the power to command you. By assuming the state of the God above, you align with the truth that your imagination is the cause of all you see. Practice this now by dwelling in the I AM and releasing attachment to external signs.
Practice This Now
Practice: Assume the I AM as the sole reality here and now; revise the scene by declaring, 'The God above is my light and reality,' and feel that truth settling in as you breathe.
