Job's Inner Trial

Job 1:6-12 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Job 1 in context

Scripture Focus

6Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.
7And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
8And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
9Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?
10Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
11But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.
12And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.
Job 1:6-12

Biblical Context

Job 1:6-12 presents a heavenly council that names Job as upright. Satan tests him by touching his possessions, while God permits the trial and restrains harm to his life.

Neville's Inner Vision

Job stands as your living state of consciousness declaring itself upright and faithful. The 'sons of God' and the challenger 'Satan' are inner voices—awareness and doubt—moving within you, not distant beings. When the Lord asks where the challenger comes from, it echoes the question you often hear: Is your faith real when riches are touched? The hedge around Job's house is your boundary of belief, the sense that your life is protected by conditions outside of you. God allows the test to reveal what you truly trust. The fact that all that Job has lies within the power he is willing to surrender to circumstance does not decree his fall; it invites you to see that your value does not rest in wealth or safety but in the I AM who sustains your being. The remedy is inward: assume the reality that you are the Lord of your life, whose state of consciousness is intact regardless of appearances. By turning the scene inward, you reclaim your freedom and awaken to perpetual harmony within.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and declare, 'I am the I AM; all that I have is within my consciousness.' Then imagine a luminous boundary around your life and feel the assurance of your state as already fulfilled for one minute.
