Inner Voice vs Self-Prophecy

Jeremiah 23:16 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Jeremiah 23 in context

Scripture Focus

16Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD.
Jeremiah 23:16

Biblical Context

Jeremiah 23:16 warns not to listen to prophets who speak visions from their own heart. Such messages come from vanity and are not from the mouth of the LORD.

Neville's Inner Vision

Jeremiah warns you not to heed the words of those who prophesy from their own heart, for such visions are vanity and do not issue from the mouth of the LORD. In my teaching, every prophet within is a state of consciousness. When I entertain a vision born of the heart’s vanity, I am listening to a counterfeit oracle, a self-made script that promises much yet has no divine source. The I AM within—the God I am—speaks through quiet perception, steady presence, and the felt sense of rightness. If I wish to know truth, I must dis-identify with voices that rise from fear, pride, or egoic longing, and align with the one current that comes from my innermost self. I make the assumption that the interior voice directing my steps is the divine mouth; I revise any outer image until it blends with that inner clarity. The moment I refuse to follow self-originated prophecy, I awaken to a steadier, truer continuance of God’s will in me.

Practice This Now

Sit in stillness, place a hand on your heart, and declare: 'I now hear only the voice that proceeds from the I AM within me; I release all visions born of vanity.' Then imagine a warm light aligning your decisions with divine guidance, feeling it real as you move through the day.
