Inner Law, Inner Light
Isaiah 8:20 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Isaiah 8 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The verse declares that light comes only from alignment with the inner law and testimony. If someone speaks contrary to this word, there is no light in them.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within you, there is a law—an unchanging I AM—and a testimony that this I AM governs all you know. Isaiah’s command becomes a discipline for the mind: speak and live by the inner word, not by borrowed definitions. When your speech drifts from this inner standard, you reveal a lack of light; imagination has not yet fired itself with the truth you claim. But when you align with the inner law of your consciousness, the light grows and your world responds to the revised assumption. You do not seek illumination from outside; you are the light that tests every thought and word against the word of your own I AM. The moment you accept this word as true, you awaken to a reality that confirms it. What you refuse to acknowledge as true remains in darkness, and what you affirm as true manifests. This is the practical discipline: re-create your inner word, and your outer law and testimony will reflect the brightness of your renewed awareness.
Practice This Now
Practice: sit quietly, place a hand on your chest, and declare: 'I am the law and the testimony; I am the light within.' Then revise one doubt or statement you would normally accept to align with this inner word, feeling it as already true.
