Inner Return of the Heart

Isaiah 63:17 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Isaiah 63 in context

Scripture Focus

17O LORD, why hast thou made us to err from thy ways, and hardened our heart from thy fear? Return for thy servants' sake, the tribes of thine inheritance.
Isaiah 63:17

Biblical Context

The verse laments how people have strayed from God's ways and grown hard in heart, asking for God to return and restore the heritage of His people.

Neville's Inner Vision

Your inner state is confessing a misalignment: you have wandered from the path of awareness and have hardened your heart away from the fear (reverence) of the I AM. The cry 'Return' is the impulse of consciousness to revise itself and rejoin its true nature. In Neville's language: God is not out there; God is the I AM, the living awareness within you. The 'servants' and 'tribes of thine inheritance' are the faculties and riches already granted to you by your true Self—intuition, love, discipline, imagination—waiting to be claimed. The verse invites you to cease blaming circumstance and to turn your attention inward, to re-create your inner climate so that your thoughts, feelings, and imaginal acts align with divine law. When you soften the resistance—allow fear to become reverence, doubt to become assurance—you revert to the original condition of you as inheritor of divine causation. Your present situation—your 'err' and 'hardened heart'—is simply the current state of your inner drama. By returning to your I AM, you reset your life script and awaken the inheritance you already possess.

Practice This Now

Assume the state: I am the I AM, aligned with the divine inheritance within me; soften the heart and walk again in reverent awareness. Feel it real now as you experience the inner 'Return' as your own immediate reality.
