Trusting the I AM Within
Isaiah 36:4-7 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Isaiah 36 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Rabshakeh taunts Hezekiah, urging trust in Egypt and military might, while the people are urged to trust the LORD. The passage contrasts reliance on outward powers with true worship of God.
Neville's Inner Vision
Here we look not at soldiers but at states of consciousness. Rabshakeh’s taunt, 'What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?' exposes the habit of leaning on external supports; the broken reed that will pierce the hand stands for any policy, currency, or alliance you trust instead of the I AM presence within. Egypt, then, is not a distant empire but every substitute for God you cling to when fear presses in. The LORD whom Hezekiah worships after reforming the altars is the living awareness behind appearances—the I AM you are. To say, 'We trust in the LORD our God' is to acknowledge that God is not a distant power but the inner state of consciousness in which you dwell. The high places removed signify the decision to stop worshiping power elsewhere and to center attention on the one altar of awareness. Your true defense is not a strategy but the awareness that you are the I AM, already and everywhere. The outer threat falls away when you rest in this inner truth, and victory becomes your natural condition.
Practice This Now
Take a moment to sit quietly and affirm, 'I trust the LORD within me now.' Visualize a radiant shield of awareness surrounding you, and revise any reliance on outward powers as transient props your I AM has already mastered.
