Biblical Context
Ephraim feeds on wind and chases the east wind, increasing lies and desolation as they ally with Assyria and seek oil from Egypt. It shows reliance on outward powers instead of covenant loyalty to the inner God.
Neville's Inner Vision
Here Ephraim is not a distant people but a state of consciousness that looks to winds for nourishment rather than to the I AM within. Feeding on wind is feeding on fleeting impressions—the opinions of others, appearances, and clever schemes that promise security. The east wind represents the pull of outward powers, the belief that life can be manufactured through alliances, treaties, or external supply. Each day the mind inflates lies and desolation when it forgets the one source of life: the I AM within. In this reading, the covenant with the Assyrians and the oil sent to Egypt symbolize mental covenants and substitutes—forms of security chosen over inner assurance. The remedy is simple and radical: return to the awareness that God, the I AM, is the only power. Assume the new state now: I am that which provides all; my outward world reflects my inward consciousness. When you stand in that awareness, the old winds die, and genuine order, health, and peace arise.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Close your eyes, place a hand on your chest, and affirm, I AM the source of my life. Feel this truth as real now and revise any dependence on outward plans by dwelling in inner certainty.
