Within Hosea, the ground of your life is not a place but a state of consciousness. Sow to yourselves in righteousness means plant a vivid, definite state of being—one in which you regard yourself as already righteous and merciful, not by outward works but by inner conviction. Reaping in mercy follows as the natural harvest of that inner soil, for mercy is the atmosphere of your awareness when you dwell in the truth of your I AM. Break up your fallow ground is the invitation to loosen the crust of stale patterns—beliefs that have lain dormant and dry for years—by imagining a fresh rainfall of divine activity, by awakening desire for communion with the Lord within. It is time to seek the LORD until He comes, which in this teaching means until your awareness becomes aware of God within you as the ruling presence. When you persist in this inner cultivation, righteousness rains upon you, transforming thoughts, feelings, and choices into the mercy you seek.
