19For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.
Hebrews 7:19

Biblical Context

Hebrews 7:19 says the law cannot make us perfect; a better hope has arrived, drawing us near. This hope is an inner transformation, not external obedience.

Neville's Inner Vision

Hebrews 7:19 declares that the law, while holy and good, never perfected the man; a better hope has now entered, and by it we draw nigh unto God. In Neville fashion, the old covenant represents the many outward acts we perform in an attempt to become someone worthy; the new covenant is a state of consciousness arriving as inner assurance. The better hope is not a rule to be kept but a something felt—an awareness that God is not distant but present as the I AM within you. When you stop chasing perfection through law and rest in the truth that you are already in relation with the divine, you begin to approach the inner sanctuary. The imperative changes from do to know; from striving to abiding faith in your own being. This hope dissolves fear, for its power does not depend on changing outer conditions but on awakening to the reality that you are near God wherever you are. The law can guide, but the reality is the inward covenant: you and God, one in consciousness, here and now.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Sit quietly, assume you are already in God’s presence; feel the I AM sustaining you, and allow that presence to fill your heart as if you are home in the divine. Maintain the feeling-state for a minute or two.
