Inner Rest by Faith

Hebrews 4:1-2 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Hebrews 4 in context

Scripture Focus

1Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
Hebrews 4:1-2

Biblical Context

The passage promises rest for entering, yet notes that it profits only when the gospel is mixed with faith.

Neville's Inner Vision

In the language of the apostle, rest stands not in a place but in consciousness. The promised rest is yours the moment you cease resisting the truth that you are the I AM, the living awareness that experiences itself as life. When you hear the gospel—the invitation that the kingdom is at hand—you must not listen with doubt, but with faith that accepts it as true now. If you entertain fear that you are still outside, you mix the message with argument and it profits nothing; but if you blend it with the feeling of already possessing it, the word awakens your inner state and the outer scene follows. Therefore, cultivate the imagination that sees yourself as already resting in the promised land; refuse to let your present circumstances contradict the inner verdict. The rest is not a future event but an inner alignment; the faith you blend with the gospel is the imagination that accepts the I AM as source, not as distant power.

Practice This Now

Imaginatively, close your eyes and affirm, 'I am resting now in the I AM.' Dwell in that felt reality for a few minutes, letting the outer world align to it.
