Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
God speaks to Jacob in a night vision, commanding him not to fear going to Egypt and promising to make him a great nation, with God accompanying him and bringing him back; Joseph will lay hands on his eyes.
Neville's Inner Vision
Jacob's night-vision becomes our own inner scene where the I AM speaks. The clause 'I am God, the God of thy father' asserts that the awareness you are—your I AM—is the only power naming and directing the journey. The instruction 'fear not to go down into Egypt' is a call to move into a deeper state of consciousness, not a fear-laden exile, for the descent is where the seed of abundance is sown. 'For I will there make of thee a great nation' means the inner state will multiply itself into outward form and blessing. 'I will go down with thee into Egypt' assures you that the I AM accompanies your inward work; you are not separated from the divine presence in the realm of the subconscious. 'And Joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes' indicates inner seeing—Joseph, the dream-vision figure who births the plan in form, now anointing perception so that what you behold is the truth of your I AM rather than mere appearances. In sum, the covenant unfolds as a present faculty of consciousness: the Kingdom of God within, sustained by the faithful presence of God.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Sit quietly, assume I AM as your complete self, and imagine hearing God’s voice in a night vision. Then permit a gentle descent into deeper consciousness and feel Joseph lay his hand on your eyes to awaken inner sight.
