Biblical Context
Abraham commands his trusted servant to swear to seek a wife for Isaac from his kin, not from the Canaanites; if the woman will not follow, the servant is released and Isaac must not be sent back. The Lord promises guidance—an angel before the journey—so obedience to this covenant becomes the heart of the action.
Neville's Inner Vision
In this narrative the I AM within you is Abraham, the conscious, commanding presence that makes a sacred covenant with your future. The servant is your habitual thought-life sent forth to procure the state you desire for Isaac, your inner wholeness. The homeland and kindred symbolize the true inner vibration that can sustain the desired life, while the daughters of the Canaanites represent passing appearances of worldly thought you must not settle for. The oath under the thigh is a disciplined vow of attention, a decision not to waver from the path. The angel is your inner guidance; Providence will supply the right conditions when you hold faith that the end is assured. If the image cannot follow, you are released, meaning the mind may let go of misaligned pictures. Your task is to remain faithful to the inner covenant, trusting your imagination to bring the right alignment into life. When you dwell in that certainty, your imagined union becomes the real world formation of Isaac's state.
Practice This Now
Assume the end: close your eyes, place a hand on your chest, and declare I AM the right alignment for my Isaac is already established. Feel that certainty and let the guiding inner voice lead you for a few minutes.
