Biblical Context
People harbor idols in their hearts that block true guidance from God. Because of these inner idols, God cannot fully answer as long as they face Him with that inner distance.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within Ezekiel, the idols are not carved statues but the beloved ideas you cling to in your heart. Your heart stores idols—beliefs, fears, loves—that dim the light of awareness and set a stumbling block before your face. When you approach the inner prophet with such a heart, you do not meet the counsel of God; you meet the image of your own idols, and God answers according to their pull. The estrangement you feel is not punishment but misalignment with the inner I AM. To restore union, revise your stance: acknowledge the idol, then declare your unity with God, and imagine the idol dissolving into the sea of pure consciousness. The moment you assent, 'I am one with the I AM,' the multiplicity of idols loses power and the inner house is taken back by the One Presence. Practice this now: assume the end—oneness with God—and feel the barrier crumble.
Practice This Now
Sit in quiet stillness, breathe deeply, and revise one cherished idol by declaring, 'I am I AM.' Visualize it dissolving into light until you feel the inner unity restored.
