Exodus 21:3-4 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Exodus 21 in context

Scripture Focus

3If he came in by himself, he shall go out by himself: if he were married, then his wife shall go out with him.
4If his master have given him a wife, and she have born him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out by himself.
Exodus 21:3-4

Biblical Context

Exodus 21:3-4 says a man may exit a state alone or with his wife. If a master gave him a wife, she and the children belong to the master, and he leaves by himself.

Neville's Inner Vision

To Neville’s ear, these lines are a map of the inner man: the state you enter into is the state you exit; the 'wife' and 'children' are the goods of your belief, not persons in time. If you enter a situation solitary, you will leave solitary; if you enter bound in a marriage with a belief that 'my happiness rests with another,' your exit will carry that companion and its offspring—the feelings and outcomes you have made real in imagination. When the master (your present dominant belief) grants you a wife, the wife and children belong to that belief, so they go with the state you identify as real; you leave that state by yourself because you are waking to the truth that you are not the servant but the I AM awakening within. In Neville's language, this is all imagination; change the assumption, and the appearances rearrange: you can revise a state so that your inner union is with the I AM, and your 'family' exists in a new dream that accompanies you as you move toward freedom. Remember, your consciousness is the law; you contract or release by what you assume to be true.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Stand in the consciousness you desire—either as free and alone, or with the inner companion by your side—and feel the reality of that state now; let a concrete revision repeat until it feels true.
