Biblical Context
These verses remind us that what has been is fixed and that man cannot contend with a mightier power. Life is a shadow, and the future’s goodness is unseen.
Neville's Inner Vision
These lines are not a doom but an invitation to examine the theater of your own consciousness. 'That which hath been is named already' points to fixed identifications you have accepted as the self—the past you rehearse in thought. 'neither may he contend with him that is mightier than he' invites you to stop warring with circumstances and to yield to the mightier I AM within, the immutable awareness that cannot be bent by outer forces. There are many things that increase vanity—busyness, clever schemes, fear of lack—but the question remains: what is truly better for you? The answer is not found in grasping outcomes but in embracing a state that dissolves resistance. Who knoweth what is good for man in this life? The wise reader learns that knowing the future is not the point; the point is the state from which you live now. When you revise your sense of self, you stop arguing with shadows and begin living as the living I AM. Then your future unfolds not by chance but by the inner conviction that it is so.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Assume the state 'I am well and guided now'; feel it-real for five minutes, and watch inner quiet replace striving.
