Biblical Context
Ecclesiastes 2:9–10 presents a man whose greatness, wisdom, and desires are enjoyed as his portion, with joy found in labor.
Neville's Inner Vision
Solomon’s page is not a ledger of things but a map of consciousness. The outer success he names—greatness, increased wealth, lasting wisdom—becomes visible only when the inner state that would feel and live as 'more than before' accepts itself as already complete. When he says his eyes desired nothing he withholds from himself, he is naming the law of assumption: you permit the imagined end to inform every moment, and your feelings follow. The line 'my heart rejoiced in all my labour' is the sign that the inner state has found its reward; joy is not after the work but the work’s inner fruit. Therefore the true riches are not the goods or honors, but the settled sense of fullness within. Wealth and wisdom, in this light, are inner dispositions that summon outward forms in proportion to the state believed in. Live from the end, and you’ll discover the portion already yours, a joy-filled life reflected back as your world.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Close your eyes and assume the end—feel that you already possess what you desire; let joy rise as your natural state. Do this for a few minutes, revising any sense of lack with the conviction: I am the wealth and wisdom I seek.
