Molten Calf Within: Inner Covenant
Deuteronomy 9:16-17 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Moses recounts Israel’s sin in fashioning a molten calf and turning aside from the commanded path. He then takes the two tablets and breaks them before their eyes.
Neville's Inner Vision
Viewed through Neville’s lens, the molten calf is not a metal idol but a projection of a mind that has forgotten its divinity. The people’s rebellion arises from a momentary belief that life comes through something outside the I AM within. The calf’s worship mirrors any image we grant power over us—fear, lack, or the sense that God’s law serves a separate self. When such an image is worshiped, the horizon narrows to what is seen, not what is possible. The breaking of the two tables is not merely punishment but a decisive inner act: to stop living by an old covenant of separation and allow a fresh state of consciousness to take its place. In your inner temple you have two tables as well: one is the recognition that God is I AM awareness; the other is the living expression of that awareness through your assumptions. When you cast aside the idol in imagination, you release the old commandments from ruling your heart and grant space for a new covenant with the Self you truly are. Practice: assume the end you seek, and feel it real until fear dissolves.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Sit quietly and declare 'I am,' then revise by imagining the calf dissolving and the two tablets resting inside your mind as a renewed covenant.
