Rooting Out Inner Idols
Deuteronomy 7:4 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Deuteronomy 7 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The verse warns that letting others sway your family away from following the I AM to idols invites swift divine anger. It speaks of the consequences—destruction—when such inner allegiance is broken.
Neville's Inner Vision
In the inner world, this text is not about external enemies, but the subtle agents that would turn the mind from the one God I AM. 'Thy son' stands for the next movement of consciousness within you—the rising impulse to know yourself as the I AM. 'Other gods' are counterfeit beliefs and attractions that pretend to govern your life—fear, lack, doubt, or any image that claims power over your inner state. When you listen to these idols, the inner flame of awareness flickers, and the 'anger of the LORD' within you is felt as resistance to your true self; in your psychology, that resistance may rip through old patterns and collapse them, seemingly destroying the old you in a moment. The divine law is simple: you must align with the consciousness that is beyond idols. Declare, in your imagination, that you are the I AM, unconditioned and sovereign, and that nothing can pull you from this throne. In such alignment, the old order dissolves, and the sudden destruction you fear becomes a clearing away of false identities, not a punishment.
Practice This Now
Sit quietly and assume I am the I AM now; revise any idol thoughts by saying, 'That fear or lure never governed me; I am the I AM,' and picture calmly moving through a scene where no distraction can turn you from true worship.
