None Before the I AM: Inner Worship
Deuteronomy 5:7 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Deuteronomy 5 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The verse commands exclusive devotion to the Lord, prohibiting worship of other gods. It invites turning inward to the I AM and aligning every belief with the one Presence.
Neville's Inner Vision
Think of Deuteronomy 5:7 as a law of the psyche: there is a single Presence—the I AM—whose throne is your awareness. The 'gods' before me are not distant idols but states of mind that pretend to hold real power: fear, lust, need for approval, or a fixation on circumstance. When you entertain any of these as more real than your inner state, you tilt the balance and invite a life shaped by their likeness. The command to have no other gods is a reminder to keep your imagination anchored in the one Presence. In Neville's terms, God is not out there but within, the living I within you who perceives, moves, and creates. Your world is a mirror of your inner conviction. If you are anxious, revise: 'I am the I AM; this fear is only a passing appearance; the one Presence remains.' When you feel this shift, you are practicing true worship: loyalty to the inner cause, not to external appearances. Gradually, your life will align with the feeling of that single sovereign consciousness.
Practice This Now
Assume the state 'I AM' as the sole ruler of my mind. Revise every competing image and feel that presence fill the room with calm.
