Deuteronomy 13:1-2 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Deuteronomy 13 in context

Scripture Focus

1If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,
2And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;
Deuteronomy 13:1-2

Biblical Context

The passage warns that outward signs—even miracles—do not prove truth if they lead you to worship other gods. The true test is whether your inner allegiance remains with the I AM, not with external phenomena.

Neville's Inner Vision

Verse 13:1-2 speaks of a sign-bearing speaker who would lure you to other gods. In Neville’s sense, the prophet is any state of consciousness that tries to govern your life from without. The wonder or miracle is not the problem; it is the direction it gives your heart. If the sign says, 'Let us serve them,' you are being asked to surrender your inner sovereignty to an idol of fear, pride, or craving. The reality you inhabit is not held in external events but in your own consciousness. When such a motion takes hold, you test whether you dwell in the I AM— your unchanging awareness— or in the shifting weather of appearances. The cure is simple: assume the feeling that you are already one with God, that the I AM governs your world. Do not debase your inner temple by following signs that pull you from true worship. Your power lies in the steady alignment with the I AM within, where imagination can create without compromise.

Practice This Now

Assume you are already in the promised land of your true nature; when a 'sign' arises, revise it to confirm your unity with the I AM. Feel it real that you govern your life from within.
