Acts 23: Inner Warning Emerges

Acts 23:16-22 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Acts 23 in context

Scripture Focus

16And when Paul's sister's son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul.
17Then Paul called one of the centurions unto him, and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain: for he hath a certain thing to tell him.
18So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me unto him, and prayed me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath something to say unto thee.
19Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me?
20And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would enquire somewhat of him more perfectly.
21But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee.
22So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast shewed these things to me.

Biblical Context

Paul's sister's son overhears a plot to kill him, informs Paul, and the captain privately receives the warning to protect Paul while keeping it confidential.

Neville's Inner Vision

View the episode as an inner drama. Paul represents the steadfast I AM within you—an awareness that cannot be moved by fear. The sister's son is your intuitive messenger, the whispered signal that arises when danger is sensed. The ambush and the oath-bound forty are not men at all but mental habits of fear, promising safety through force yet threatening to kill the life within. The chief captain stands for the governing faculty of consciousness that sees through appearances, moves privately to guard truth, and sets conditions for safety to unfold. When the messenger speaks, the captain questions and guides the process, revealing truth only to the right eyes at the right time. Providence does not erase danger but provides a disciplined inner order by which you avoid entanglement and stay aligned with your higher purpose. Your task is to remain awake in the moment, honor the warning as a real inner sense, and obey it inwardly until the inner command makes its full appearance. In this, you learn to live by the I AM, not by fear, trusting the quiet orchestration of spirit.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Sit quietly, place your hand on your chest, and assume the role of the inner captain; silently declare, 'I AM awareness guards this life and I receive inner warnings to act with discretion.' Then imagine the messenger guiding you to a private council with your higher self and feel safety permeating your being.
