2 Samuel 16:13-14 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 2 Samuel 16 in context

Scripture Focus

13And as David and his men went by the way, Shimei went along on the hill's side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust.
14And the king, and all the people that were with him, came weary, and refreshed themselves there.
2 Samuel 16:13-14

Biblical Context

David and his men are met by Shimei’s curses and stones as they travel; they grow weary, yet later find a moment of refreshment simply by continuing onward together.

Neville's Inner Vision

Shimei’s outburst is not a thing happening to you; it is a symbol of the caustic, external criticisms that rise in your own thinking. The hill, the dust, the stones, the curses—all are inner movements of consciousness you project onto your path. David the king stands not as a man threatened by circumstance but as the I AM within you, calmly sovereign, aware that perception does not rule reality—awareness does. Weariness shows up when you identify with the story of limitation; the refreshment that follows signals a shift of state: you remember who you are and cease to react from fear. In Neville’s terms, nothing in the outer scene creates you; you create the scene by the state you inhabit. To reinterpret this moment, revise Shimei’s curses into words of blessing, reframe the dust as the dust of past illusions, and allow the sensed presence of God to rise as your immediate experience. Let the king rest in the awareness that he is never separated from the I AM, and so are you. This is the spiritual practice: assume the state of the I AM, and watch the world respond to your inner stillness with renewed vitality.

Practice This Now

In the next 5 minutes, close your eyes, breathe into I AM, and silently revise the scene by transforming Shimei’s curses into blessings; hold the sense, 'I AM the king here, untouched by outer words, refreshed in divine presence.'
