Inner Fire and High Places
2 Kings 16:3-4 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read 2 Kings 16 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The text portrays a ruler who adopts the idolatrous ways of Israel, sacrificing and burning incense at high places—outward worship that reveals a heart distant from true devotion. It shows how life can be organized around external forms while inner allegiance is elsewhere.
Neville's Inner Vision
Beloved, this verse speaks not of a distant king but of the inner monarchs you carry in consciousness. 'Walking in the way' of Israel’s kings becomes your habitual thoughts and images—patterns that seem to govern you while the I AM remains unacknowledged. The act of causing a son to pass through the fire is the inner sacrifice you offer to idols—the need for safety, status, or approval—placed upon the altar of public opinion. Incense burned in high places, on hills, and under every green tree signifies altars you raise wherever you lend power to an idea apart from the One Presence within. Such outward rites reveal a mind scattered among many false gods. Yet the I AM within is the sole authority you must claim as real. To reverse this, turn your attention to the single altar of consciousness, the one God within you, and imagine the scene rewritten by inner truth. Your imagination is the instrument by which the unseen becomes seen.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and assume the feeling of the I AM. Revise the inner scene by affirming, 'I am the Lord of my consciousness,' replacing every external altar with the awareness of the One Presence within.
