Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Menahem pays a thousand talents to Pul to secure his kingdom, and levies wealth from Israel to fund the tribute; the Assyrian king withdraws after receiving the payment.
Neville's Inner Vision
Consider Pul, the king of Assyria, as the external constraint pressed upon your life. Menahem's payment is a temporary compromise to preserve outward power. In Neville's psychology, the land represents a state of consciousness; the act of taxing the people is the mind’s attempt to secure a kingdom by material means. The real 'kingdom' is within, and the I AM—your awareness—alone wields true might. When you imagine yourself aligned with the inner sovereignty of God, you withdraw the power from fear of loss and you cease to depend on outward alliances. The withdrawal of Pul becomes possible the moment you no longer need the outer tribute to feel secure; instead, you recognize that abundance exists as a quality of your consciousness. This inner revision—the conviction that you are the kingdom and wealth is a present inner substance—causes the outer scene to align with your inner state. The story thus invites you to see wealth not as a tax to be paid to a conqueror but as the manifestation of your present I AM.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and assume, right now, that you already possess the kingdom within. As you breathe, feel the wealth and security flowing from your inner I AM, and affirm, 'I am the I AM; wealth and protection are mine.'
