Inner Exile, Inner Sabbath

2 Chronicles 36:20-21 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 2 Chronicles 36 in context

Scripture Focus

20And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon; where they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia:
21To fulfil the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years.
2 Chronicles 36:20-21

Biblical Context

Those who escaped were carried to Babylon and served there until the reign of Persia; the land kept sabbath to fulfill seventy years.

Neville's Inner Vision

Exile in these verses is a state of consciousness, not merely a place. You may have wandered into a Babylon of fear, habit, and time-bound thought, becoming a servant to appearances and to the rulers of your mind. The LORD’s word, spoken within, is a decree: this desolation has a season and a purpose—a necessary rest that prepares you for a higher dominion. The land keeping sabbath while desolate is your mind allowing itself to cease striving and to rest in I AM. Seventy years symbolize a complete cycle of release from fear, not a literal clock. Then a new sovereignty arises—the king of Persia within you—the I AM, calm and authoritative, ruling by alignment with truth rather than force. When you align, the old servitude dissolves, and you return to your true home. The prophecy becomes present experience: you are now governed by the timeless, benevolent rule of God in you, here and now.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and assume the consciousness of the I AM as king within you; rest your mind and declare, I am governed by divine order, the exile is over. Then feel the inner land rest in sabbath and invite a new sovereign to reign.
