Biblical Context
Manasseh's acts depict turning from true worship to idols and occult practices within the temple. His actions symbolize how a state of consciousness can surrender the inner temple to external powers.
Neville's Inner Vision
Manasseh here is not a distant king but a state of consciousness that has abandoned the I AM for external rites, enchantments, and the secret arts. The temple becomes a field where altars to Baalim and to the host of heaven are erected, and even the LORD’s house is used as a stage for the drama of dependency on images. When the mind yields to such powers, it believes the outside world governs its fate, and the inner sanctuary is crowded with noises, divinations, and fear. Yet the inner truth remains: you are the I AM, the watcher and the sovereign king of your inner realm. The 'host of heaven' and the 'fires of Hinnom' are only dream-figures arising from forgotten assumptions. By recognizing them as thoughts and beliefs, you can reverse their spell. The cure is simple in form but profound in effect: assume you are the ruler of this temple, and that the sole worship worthy of the I AM is the quiet, unwavering presence within. As you do, the altars lose their power, the inner temple brightens, and the outer world shifts to reflect your new alignment.
Practice This Now
Sit in quiet and declare, I AM the LORD of this temple; imagine removing every external altar and placing one radiant altar of the I AM in its place, then feel it is already so.
