Inner Break from Ancestral Counsel

2 Chronicles 22:3-4 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 2 Chronicles 22 in context

Scripture Focus

3He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.
4Wherefore he did evil in the sight of the LORD like the house of Ahab: for they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction.
2 Chronicles 22:3-4

Biblical Context

The verses depict a king who heeds his mother's wicked counsel and imitates the house of Ahab, walking in their ways and bringing judgment. This alignment leads to evil in the sight of the LORD and the destruction that follows.

Neville's Inner Vision

In your inner kingdom, the king follows the worn steps of the house of Ahab when you listen to the voice of old habit—your mother as belief, the habitual counsellor urging wickedness. The 'mother' is not a person but a pattern of thought handed down through memory; 'Ahab' represents a craving for outward forms and compromise with idols. When you yield, you enact the same inner law: evil appears in your sight, and the old self brings destruction by separating you from your divine nature. Now, awaken the I AM—the constant awareness that you are. Let the still, small inner counsellor guide you toward holiness and away from false worship. Practice imagining yourself freed from hereditary counsels, feeling the reality of a single, ruling God within. Your kingdom need not fear judgment when every thought and feeling is governed by the I AM.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and place a hand on your chest. Silently declare, 'I AM the I AM; I reject the old counsellors of fear and habit, and choose holiness within.' Hold that feeling of sovereign inner authority for a minute, letting it realign your sense of decision and action.
