Biblical Context
The verse describes a ruler who builds elevated places and leads the people of Jerusalem into idolatry, forcing them to follow false worship.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within this verse the mountains are not stone but states of consciousness. A king, the impulse to exalt a false authority, raises high places in the mountains of Judah—beliefs that feel powerful, exclusive, and sensational. By these elevated beliefs, the inhabitants of Jerusalem—the daily thoughts, habits, and fears within your mind—are drawn to fornication, a betrayal of the One Power you truly are. The coercion speaks of a mental habit that makes you feel ruled by circumstances, as if you must bow to idols. Neville teaches that you are the I AM within, and your inner conditions determine outward events. To heal, do not consent to the idol’s rule. Revise by assuming the opposite: that the true ruler, the I AM, reigns over every hill and every city of your psyche. See the high places crumble into light as you refuse to worship them and return your devotion to the Presence that moves all. When you dwell in the awareness that imagination creates reality, you align your inner state with wholeness, and the outward scene reshapes itself to reflect that inner worship.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Sit in silence, place awareness at the center of your chest, and imagine a bright throne labeled 'I AM' taking the place of the inner king. Then revise: 'From now on, I worship only the One Presence within me; idols have no power over my mind.'
