Biblical Context
Jehoshaphat appoints judges in every city and instructs them to judge for the LORD, to fear the LORD, and to be faithful with a perfect heart, free from bribery and partiality.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within this scene I hear that the outer courts of the kingdom mirror an inner court of my consciousness. My command is to judge not for men but for the LORD who is with me in the judgment, inviting me to assume myself as the solitary judge of my own mind. The fear of the LORD becomes the feeling of reverence for the I AM present in every thought; it is not terror but awe that disciplines each mental move. When I forbid iniquity, favoritism, or taking gifts, I am describing the inner posture my imagination must hold: no favoritism toward dull habit, no bribery of fear with comfort, no excuses that justify untruth. The Levites and priests are my deeper faculties—the evaluators aligned with divine law—made to judge not the world’s opinions but the LORD’s. When I return to Jerusalem, my mind’s inner capital, I am governed by the LORD, and I am charged to act faithfully, with a perfect heart. My inner reality becomes my outer demonstration; the judge I station within creates the world I inhabit.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Close your eyes and assume the inner court is listening; revise a current decision by declaring, 'I judge for the LORD with a perfect heart.' Feel the fear of the LORD guiding your thoughts and actions.
