Biblical Context

Rehoboam sends Hadoram over the tribute; the envoy is stoned to death by the people. Then Rehoboam hurries to get him into his chariot and flee to Jerusalem.

Neville's Inner Vision

In Neville Goddard’s sense, the page is a mirror of your inner kingdom. Rehoboam represents a state of consciousness that names itself king and demands tribute from life; Hadoram over the tribute stands for a particular thought-form clinging to external form. When the Israelites stone him, it is the mind’s sudden collapse of that old demand—an inner judgment against the old policy. Rehoboam’s flight to Jerusalem signifies your consciousness seeking refuge in the inner sanctuary whenever the old order seems to perish. The power of the scene lies not in the crowd but in your awareness that the true king is the I AM and that all events arise from your state of consciousness. The lesson is that you determine reality by the inner king you serve. Revise the scene by acknowledging a newer authority within, and feel the I AM as sovereign. When you do, outward appearances dissolve into a single, aligned state in which Jeru-salem—the state of inner peace—is already established.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Close your eyes and revise the scene so the I AM sits on the throne and the crowd lays down their stones. Feel the inner authority real and walk unafraid to Jerusalem.
