Anchor Your Faith Within

1 Timothy 1:19-20 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 Timothy 1 in context

Scripture Focus

19Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:
20Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.
1 Timothy 1:19-20

Biblical Context

The passage urges believers to hold to faith and a good conscience, for neglecting them leads to spiritual shipwreck; Hymenaeus and Alexander are cited as examples of those who blaspheme when conscience is abandoned.

Neville's Inner Vision

I am not speaking of a history outside you, but of your inner state. Faith is not belief in something distant, but trust in the immediacy of your divine awareness; conscience is the harmonizing ear that will not let fear or resentment rule your imagined world. When you turn from this inner alignment and feed thoughts of separation, you set your mind adrift, and the boat of your feeling-state breaks against the rocks of doubt. Hymenaeus and Alexander are personifications of your rebellious imaginations—the voices that say blaspheme the truth you feel and thus invite you to forget who you are. Paul’s act of delivering them unto Satan is a symbolic letting go so you can observe, feel, and learn; you do not condemn your whole self, you simply allow misbeliefs to surface to be dissolved by the I AM. The remedy is to return to the inner anchor: know God as your awareness, and refresh faith and conscience in the present moment.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: In the next minute, assume the posture of awareness and silently say I am the I AM; my faith is anchored in this present awareness. Then revise any blasphemous thought by declaring that thought is not me and I align again with the inner truth.
