Seeing the scene as a mirror for your mind, the outer crisis echoes your inner state. The elders' question—Why has the LORD smitten us today?—reflects a mind wondering why it feels pressed. Their plan to fetch the ark is a move to bring salvation from without, a belief that an object can save when the real salvation lies in awareness.
