Inner Call of Samuel
1 Samuel 3:4-8 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read 1 Samuel 3 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Samuel hears the LORD calling and repeatedly answers Here am I, until the Lord's presence becomes clear to him. He does not yet know the LORD, signaling an inner awakening toward his true vocation.
Neville's Inner Vision
Samuel is a state of consciousness waking to the I AM within. The repeated calls are inner movements of awareness, not a distant voice. Eli represents the old memory or familiar mind that misreads the source, yet the call persists because God is the constant presence of I AM in you. When Samuel says Here am I, he aligns with the invitation to step into conscious relation with the Divine. The verse notes that Samuel did not yet know the LORD, which in Neville's terms means your present self is not yet aware of its source; the threefold calling marks the gradual opening of a new inner kingdom. As you accept the call, you move from projection onto external authorities toward living from the inner word as your vocation. The word of the LORD becomes when you claim it as your own living principle, shaping thoughts, feelings, and actions into truth.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Sit quietly and imagine you are Samuel, listening for the inner call. Affirm I am here and I am listening, and feel the I AM within guiding you toward your vocation.
