Inner Covenant of Grace

1 Samuel 20:3 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 Samuel 20 in context

Scripture Focus

3And David sware moreover, and said, Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.
1 Samuel 20:3

Biblical Context

David declares there is but a step between him and death, acknowledging he has found grace in Jonathan's eyes and asking secrecy from Jonathan's father; he swears by the LORD.

Neville's Inner Vision

David’s line reveals that life and death are states of consciousness, not external events. The phrase there is but a step between me and death marks the threshold of a belief the mind still treats as real—until the I AM renders it moot. The oath as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth anchors the self in divine presence, the eternal I AM which knows no finality. The grace in Jonathan's eyes is the inner recognition of one's own essential favor and worth, the grace of God shining as thought in a beloved mirror. The vow is a commitment to live from that inner grace, not to seek salvation from an outer king. When you align with this inner covenant, fear loses its grip and death becomes a rumor, because the mind dares to live as if grace already is the only reality. Imagination becomes the bridge between fear of loss and the triumph of life, and faith becomes your daily practice.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and affirm I am the grace of God present now; there is no separation between life and me. Imagine walking through the step into a realized, unshakable peace.
