Illusion of Obedience
1 Samuel 15:12-13 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read 1 Samuel 15 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Saul greets Samuel claiming he has fulfilled the LORD's command, yet the text hints that outward show did not reveal true inner obedience. The scene contrasts speech with inner alignment.
Neville's Inner Vision
In this moment Samuel’s report and Saul’s boast expose a simple truth: the outer performance can never replace the inner consent of consciousness to the divine will. The inner life reveals a different movement: the man of appearances moves through Carmel and Gilgal while the inner consent to the LORD's command is not actually felt. The true commandment is obedience of awareness, not the mere performance of words. When Saul says, 'I have performed,' you hear the ego boasting, yet the I AM remains untouched by the boast. Neville teaches that life follows your inner state; if your inner life attempts to satisfy an idea of righteousness, the outer events will echo the same performative energy. Thus the commandment is not an action to be checked off, but a transformation of your sense of self into the divine will. To align, you must assume the state that you have already obeyed, not that you will someday obey. Rehearse the feeling of living in obedience as your present fact: the inner decision precedes outer action, and your world conforms to the conviction that you are, right now, the I AM obeying itself.
Practice This Now
Assume the inner state: 'I am the obedience that God requires.' Feel it as a living truth now, and let your next action arise from that assured inner alignment.
