Belief, Love, and The I AM

1 John 5:1-2 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 John 5 in context

Scripture Focus

1Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
2By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
1 John 5:1-2

Biblical Context

1 John 5:1-2 states that believing Jesus is the Christ marks you as born of God, and true love for God’s children is shown by loving God and keeping His commandments.

Neville's Inner Vision

Take John’s words as a working impression for your consciousness: belief is not a vote you cast outward, but an inner alignment with the I AM, a state in which you accept Jesus as the Christ within you. To be born of God is to awaken as the living affirmation of God’s birthright in your own mind. When you love the begotten, you are loving the image of God you recognize in every brother and sister—because you love the One who begat them in the first place, the I AM that you are aware of. The way we know this love is by keeping the commandments, but remember the commandments are internal laws of harmonized living—imaged and maintained by you, not imposed from without. Your loving action toward others is the sign that your inner state is true; it proves you are not separate from God or from your fellowman. The practical discipline is to dwell in the assumption that you are this Christ-born being, and to feel the reality of that unity until it manifests as acts of love and obedience in your daily experience. Imagination creates reality, and love is its most faithful proof.

Practice This Now

In the next minute, close your eyes and declare softly, 'I am born of God; I love the children of God; I keep His commandments,' and feel this truth as if it already were your living state.
