11Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

13Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
1 John 4:11-13

Biblical Context

The passage teaches that God's love for us obliges us to love one another; by loving others we prove that God dwells in us and that we dwell in Him through the Spirit.

Neville's Inner Vision

Here the text points to an unseen majesty—the I AM that you are—speaking through the ordinary act of kindness. God is not a distant person you must chase; He is the living awareness in which you awaken. The passage Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another becomes you awaken to the fact that love is the inner condition of your mind, the posture of consciousness that makes every encounter a revelation of the divine. No man hath seen God at any time means you do not seek Him as a man outside; you discern Him when you love, for love is the sign that God dwells in you. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us — the more consistent your loving, the more perfectly your inner life matches the divine presence. Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit — the Spirit is your steady sense of being, a gift that confirms you are a tenant of the eternal home. Practice love as your inner realization, and the outer becomes a mirror of this unity.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and, for five minutes, assume the feeling of the I AM loving through you. Picture a warm inner light flowing to the person you will speak to or serve, and silently affirm that you and the other dwell in God and God dwells in you; feel this unity as reality.
