The Inner Light of 1 John

1 John 1:1-10 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 John 1 in context

Scripture Focus

1That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
2(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
3That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
5This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
1 John 1:1-10

Biblical Context

The passage bears witness to a life made manifest and invites fellowship with God and with Jesus; it proclaims that walking in the light brings truth and joy, while denying sin or forgiveness leads away from the truth.

Neville's Inner Vision

John’s testimony reveals that the Word of life is not an external doctrine but your own inner life, the I AM in action. The beginning points to a timeless consciousness that knows itself as life and projects a world from its light. When you hear, see, and touch that Word, you are not collecting facts about God; you are recognizing a state of awareness that has always been and shall forever be. Fellowship with the Father and His Son is the harmony of your mind with that divine consciousness; joy arises as alignment returns to its natural state. God is light, meaning truth-thought, where darkness cannot exist in genuine perception. Walking in the light is choosing to think from that illuminated state and to be at peace with all; the “blood of Jesus” is the symbolic cleansing of false beliefs when you confess and return to truth. To claim no sin resists truth; confession confirms the truth of your inner life and invites forgiveness. Your reality follows this inward illumination.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes, settle into I AM as your life, and declare: I walk in the light. Revise any sense of separation by affirming that the eternal life within me is my immediate reality and forgive by aligning with this truth and releasing old beliefs.
