Hair as Inner Covering

1 Corinthians 11:14-15 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 Corinthians 11 in context

Scripture Focus

14Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?
15But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
1 Corinthians 11:14-15

Biblical Context

Nature reveals an inner order. In this sense, a man's long hair is a shame, while a woman's long hair is a glory, acting as a covering.

Neville's Inner Vision

I tell you, this text is not about outward fashion but about the inner state you have assumed. Nature itself teaches that your outer image is only the garment of your inner state. If a man identifies with a long hair as his mark, he confesses a consciousness out of alignment with the I AM; that consciousness becomes a 'shame' in the sense it denies his real being. A woman, by contrast, who welcomes long hair as a glory is embracing her inward covering—the soul's perception of herself as guarded and dignified by divine presence. Hair here stands for your covering, your sense of protection by the you that you inwardly know. The clause 'for her hair is given her for a covering' invites you to see that your inner life provides what clothes your body. So choose to dwell in a new state—feel and imagine yourself already crowned with divine covering; your outer form will follow.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes; assume the I AM is your true self. Revise by affirming, 'I am the image of God; my inner state clothes me with divine covering now,' and feel this dignity spreading.
