Overturning Worldly Wisdom

1 Corinthians 1:19-20 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 Corinthians 1 in context

Scripture Focus

19For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
20Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
1 Corinthians 1:19-20

Biblical Context

The passage declares that God will destroy the wisdom of the wise and render the prudent's understanding powerless. It asks where the wise, scribe, and disputer are, reminding us that worldly wisdom is made to seem foolish by God.

Neville's Inner Vision

Think not of outer cleverness, but of the I AM within. The apostle speaks as if God turns the prized opinions of the world into folly, so that the inner man, the one who lives in awareness, can stand free of bondage to minds busy with disputes. In your present experience, the 'wise' are simply states of consciousness that trust external intellect over the inner revelation. When you identify with the I AM, you dissolve the charge of worldly wisdom; the very questions 'where is the wise?' 'where is the scribe?' vanish because you no longer measure yourself by their proof. God has made foolish the wisdom of this world, meaning the apparent certainty of opinion collapses when consciousness awakens. As you practice, you do not resist thinking but revise it by assuming a higher truth that you are consciousness itself, aware of divine order. The old judgments fall away as you feel the indwelling power guiding every choice. Your world rearranges to reflect the wisdom that was always present—the quiet, unchallengeable awareness that you are one with God.

Practice This Now

Assume right now that I AM is the source of all wisdom; softly say, 'I am the I AM, divine insight rises within me.' Feel the inner guidance replace every external opinion as your world rearranges to reflect this truth.
