Inner Eye of Zechariah 9

Zechariah 9:1-4 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Zechariah 9 in context

Scripture Focus

1The burden of the word of the LORD in the land of Hadrach, and Damascus shall be the rest thereof: when the eyes of man, as of all the tribes of Israel, shall be toward the LORD.
2And Hamath also shall border thereby; Tyrus, and Zidon, though it be very wise.
3And Tyrus did build herself a strong hold, and heaped up silver as the dust, and fine gold as the mire of the streets.
4Behold, the LORD will cast her out, and he will smite her power in the sea; and she shall be devoured with fire.
Zechariah 9:1-4

Biblical Context

The verses speak of a prophetic burden resting on Hadrach and Damascus, indicating that when the people turn their eyes to the LORD, true alignment with God begins. It also pictures powerful cities amassing wealth, then being judged and cast out.

Neville's Inner Vision

All the words in Zechariah are spoken to your own consciousness. The burden of the word in Hadrach and Damascus is not a distant prophecy but a description of the state of mind before awakening. When the eyes of man, and all the tribes of Israel, are turned toward the LORD—your indwelling I AM—the outer conditions lose their sovereignty, and rest enters the mind. Hamath, Tyre, and Zidon are the personifications of attachment: a mind that builds strongholds, piles up silver as dust, and gold as mire. The Lord’s act — casting out the city, striking its power in the sea, devouring it with fire — is the alchemy of inner transformation. It is not punishment so much as the purification by fire of consciousness that no longer needs to be defined by wealth or status. As you fix attention on the I AM, the old strongholds dissolve, the sea of the subconscious is rearranged, and the inner kingdom rises in grace. You are not distant from this change; you are the change, the awareness that now witnesses Tyre’s glittering heap dissolving into light.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes, and with a firm inward posture, assume the feeling I am the I AM; all is God-present within me, and imagine turning your gaze from outer wealth to inner awareness; let the old strongholds vanish as you breathe in the felt-sense of inner rest.
