Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The passage speaks of a sword against the shepherd, scattering the flock, and a remnant refined by fire. The few who remain are purified, called by name, and declare the Lord is their God.
Neville's Inner Vision
Viewed through the lens of consciousness, the shepherd represents your current sense of self as you imagine leadership and protection. When the 'sword' awakens against him, you experience a disruption in your usual story—your thoughts scatter, your habits crumble. This is not punishment but the inner mechanism by which a false identity is dissolved. The 'two parts' that die symbolize the many mistaken identifications that you have allowed to define you; only the 'third part'—the awakened state of consciousness that remains—survives the trial and is refined by the fire of awareness. As you endure the heat, your attention tightens around the I AM; you call on My name, and the recognition comes: you are not separate from God but coextensive with It. In time, the remnant emerges saying, 'The LORD is my God,' and you know, 'It is I who am called by the name of the Lord.' The process is invitational: surrender the old sense of self, invite the new, and watch your world align with your inward state.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Close your eyes, assume the state of the third part—the refined remnant. Feel it as already here and say quietly, 'The Lord is my God' until that recognition feels real in your body.
