When God says He will smite the horse with astonishment and the rider with madness, He is describing the sudden disruption of the habitual pictures in your mind—the images by which you have mistaken power for reality. The 'horse' represents the busy, projecting thoughts; the 'rider' is the will that drives those thoughts toward outer outcomes. By astonishment and madness, the old order of identification is shaken, and you are forced to look inward. 'I will open mine eyes upon the house of Judah' marks the moment your I AM—your present awareness—turns its attention to the inner dwelling of you; the house of Judah is the center of your own consciousness. The final line, 'I will smite every horse of the people with blindness,' signals the withdrawal of attention from external symbols, so that outer appearances no longer dictate you. In that instant you awaken to a new reality: you are the one who sees, and your visions are corrected by inner sight, not by circumstance.
