Biblical Context
Zechariah 1:14-15 declares God's jealousy for Jerusalem and Zion and expresses displeasure with nations at ease; it highlights how inner attitudes shape outward events. The passage invites attention to our inner state and the consequences of complacency.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within you, the text speaks of an I AM that cannot be content with mere outward ease. Jerusalem and Zion are not places apart from you but states of consciousness you awaken to or neglect. The great jealousy is the burning clarity of awareness that demands alignment - an inner zeal that will not tolerate compromise. When the 'heathen at ease' in your mind originates from idle beliefs, the outer world seems to afflict itself on you, yet this is only the feedback of your own vibrational level. The little displeasure mentioned is not punishment but a nudge from your inner teacher, signaling you to change the pattern. Your responsibility is to entertain the assumption that you are already living within the Jerusalem of peace and the Zion of holiness. Hold that vision, revise every faint thought that comforts you in complacency, and the sense of outward affliction dissolves as your inner state harmonizes with the truth you have assumed. The I AM within you is the jealous guardian of your inner kingdom, and by feeling it real you enter that kingdom now.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: close your eyes and assume the feeling of Zion's presence as your present state; repeat, 'I am Zion; I am the Jerusalem of my inner experience,' until the sensation sits in as real.
