Scripture Focus

14O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely.
Song of Solomon 2:14

Biblical Context

In Song 2:14, the beloved is described as a dove hidden in rocky crevices, asking to be seen and heard because tenderness and beauty reside in inner quiet.

Neville's Inner Vision

You are the I AM, the self which never changes. The dove in the clefts of the rock is your own consciousness seeking recognition by itself. The secret places of the stairs are the inward steps by which attention ascends into the quiet of awareness. When the voice you long to hear is not external but the still, sweet whisper of your own being, you discover that your countenance (the face you present to life) is comely because it reflects the warm radiance of the I AM. The request to see and hear is a verdict of consciousness: you are awakening to what you already are. By repeating the assumption and feeling its truth—knowing that you are beloved and that God is within—you revise separation into unity. The outer scene then answers from the shelter of this inner sanctuary, bringing calm, beauty, and a voice that guides with gentleness.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and place your attention in the chest; declare I am the dove in the rock, sheltered by the I AM. Feel the inner voice as sweet and your face as comely, then rest in the clear awareness for a minute.
