Biblical Context
Ruth asks to glean in the field and stays with Boaz's workers; Boaz instructs her to remain by his maidens, watch the field, and drink from the vessels when thirsty.
Neville's Inner Vision
Ruth is the image of your present consciousness seeking the good life offers. Boaz stands for the inner sense of Providence—the I AM—that guards your focus and guides you to a field of supply. When Ruth is told to stay by the maidens and keep her eyes on the field they reap, this is the mind choosing a single line of attention—the one field where your desires will be harvested. The instruction not to glean elsewhere is a directive to settle in a definite state of awareness rather than wandering through countless beliefs. Drinking from the vessels when thirsty represents drinking from the ideas your inner world provides—the means by which life nourishes you through imagination. The entire scene is a parable: Providence is the I AM, always present, delivering according to the state of your awareness. Ruth’s steadfastness shows that dwelling in a fixed field of consciousness yields the harvest you seek.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Assume Ruth’s state now—safely provided in your chosen field; say, 'I am in the field of provision,' and feel the nourishment as real. Stay with that feeling and drink from the inner vessels of your imagination.
