Scripture Focus

15And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law.
16And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
17Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.
Ruth 1:15-17

Biblical Context

Ruth refuses to leave Naomi, pledging to stay with her, adopt Naomi's people and her God, and to die where Naomi dies.

Neville's Inner Vision

Ruth’s vow is not a mere historical detail but a turning of consciousness. In the quiet room of the mind, the Ruth in you chooses to follow the Naomi you have become aware of—the higher desire, the fidelity, the God you acknowledge as I AM. The outward world is the shadow of your inner alignment. When Ruth declares she will go where Naomi goes and stay where Naomi stays, she names your agreement with the divine order that sustains you wherever you abide. The line about dying with Naomi is the resolution to remain in the state that gave rise to your life. As Neville would say, imagination is the only reality; your covenanted self remains joined to its object until the old self dies. So make the vow with feeling: I choose to be the state through which my destiny unfolds; I regard my journey as one with my highest God-state, and let my life follow that allegiance.

Practice This Now

Assume the state Ruth pledges: where I go, my God goes with me. Feel that loyalty as a present reality and let it guide your choices today.
